FAQs

For Patients & Families

Q: Do I need a referral from my doctor to get a second opinion? No. Our second opinion and patient consultation services are offered directly to you. You do not need a referral. Our goal is to provide you with an independent, expert assessment that you can share with your primary care team.

Q: Is this service covered by my insurance? No, Pleiades Imaging does not accept insurance. This is a private, concierge-level service. By not contracting with insurance, we are able to provide a completely independent, unbiased review focused solely on your care. We can, however, provide you with a detailed receipt that you may be able to submit to your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA).

Q: How do I send you my medical images (MRI or CT scans)? Once you have scheduled a consultation, you will receive a secure link to our HIPAA-compliant, private portal. You can easily upload your images directly from a CD or from a digital file provided by your hospital. Please do not send medical images via standard email.

Q: What is the difference between a "Second Opinion" and a "Patient Consultation"? This is a great question.

  • A Second Opinion is a formal, written report. Dr. Nahlawi will perform a full diagnostic review of your images and provide her own detailed, written interpretation of the findings.

  • A Patient Consultation is a 1-on-1 telehealth call. Dr. Nahlawi will review your existing reports with you, "translate" the complex medical terms, answer your questions, and help you prepare for your next appointment with your doctor.

Q: Does getting a second opinion make Dr. Nahlawi my new doctor? No. This is a consultative service, not a primary physician-patient relationship. Dr. Nahlawi will not be ordering new tests, prescribing medication, or managing your overall care. Our service is designed to provide expert clarification and a supplemental opinion to support you and your existing medical team.

For Attorneys & Legal Professionals

Q: What are Dr. Nahlawi's qualifications as a medico-legal expert? Dr. Nahlawi is a U.S. board-certified Diagnostic Radiologist who completed an advanced fellowship in Neuroradiology at the University of Michigan. She is an active, published researcher and serves as teaching faculty at two medical schools. Her academic background and extensive clinical experience make her an ideal, authoritative expert for neuroradiology cases.

Q: What is your process for reviewing a new case? Please use the secure contact form on our website to initiate a new case. We will schedule a brief, complimentary call to discuss the scope of the case, sign an engagement letter, and arrange for the secure, confidential transfer of all medical records and imaging.

Q: What is your fee structure for expert witness services? We operate on an hourly retainer basis for all medico-legal services, which includes time for case review, report writing, depositions, and testimony. Please contact us directly to request our current fee schedule.
